West Liberty Christian Church started in 1854 meeting in the Morgan County courthouse until land was donated in 1883. It was on this land that the original wooden church building was built. That building was torn down in 1909 to make room for the current structure that exists today. The current building that houses the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall, was built in 1910, with the Educational Annex being added in 1984.
The Christian Church grew from what has been called the “Second Great Awakening” in the 1800’s. Religious leaders from various denominations gathered together for a revival in Cane Ridge, KY believing that it was possible to follow the Bible as their only guide and possible to put denominational titles aside in order to be “Christians Only.” This movement has been referred to as the Restoration Movement.
Each church is independent, but they come together to help various missions activities, benevolence, and support institutions of higher education like Cincinnati Christian University and Kentucky Christian University. In the United States alone there are more than 6,000 congregations with an estimated membership numbering 1.3 million.
West Liberty Christian Church is conveniently located in downtown West Liberty, KY in the heart of Morgan County. For directions, click here.
